it's been awhile since the previous post.
I have no New Year resolutions, just to be more generous.
nothing much happened, Christmas decorations in the school had been replaced with Chinese New Year decorations.
I'm now gearing my four kids for exams in March.
remember the wish I wished ? (I want to sing onstage).
there is a upcoming three hour concert in February and I am only given one part for now.
I am to play a CNY song. I felt a little sad since the other teachers get bigger and responsible parts, some involved 90% of the concert.
well, maybe it's a blessing, I don't need to practice and can concentrate on teaching.
I just want to sing.

A Long While
yes, it's been some time since the previous post
lotsa things had happened while I was away
First
I had fever that lasted five days. Initially, I though it was dengue, even had mild diarrhea. Ate the doctor's paracetamol and anti-biotic. Nothing worked until it went down by itself on Wednesday. Then, rashes started to appear. My colleagues forced me to go for second opinion. The doctor said it's a new fever rash that's hitting town......more medicine to take, sigh. I'm totally healed, eating normally and putting on weight again
Second
While I was sick, I decided to reread DOWK : The Third Wheel. I notice something. Where is Chirag Gupta, Holly Hills and Patty Farrel? Aren't they the main characters in the series? I didn't know what happened in Cabin Fever (I don't have the book). I bought it today and it seems that they were gone from that book. Too many new characters in The Third Wheel, the book's made in China (first time). Overall, it's good, I was hoping it would talk more about Greg and not Manny or Rodrick
Third
Clavinova Idol happened a week before I got sick. It was a good event but lack of contestants. Junior seven, Senior three and ensemble three. Kids are easy to make friends with. Get them to talk and they'll talk to you the whole hour about school, friends and games. Both my kids in the Junior category got consolation. Group Fantastic Girls came in third and Honey Stars first.
Fourth
YPC Concert happened on the second day I felt ill. I had to drive one of my students there so it's unavoidable, I had to support my kids. They did okay. Surprisingly, more obvious mistakes than Clavi Idol. I'm hoping one of the eleven makes the cut. I left during the intermission of the evening session, can't stand the fever and before anything worse happens, I drove straight home
Fifth
JMC Graduation occurred four days after I am well. There's a boy who performs very professionally guest performing together with my Honey Stars. He's nine and he hates girls and chocolate.(I suppose most boys his age hates girls) He talks well to me and my Honey girls. I had to go onstage to play with the Honeys as one of them were absent. Gosh, it was terrifying. I had to improvise on the spot, playing pedals and play like a teacher, not a student. It was during the end of the song that I felt comfortable and like myself playing without the heart pumping against my chest. It's fun, but I won't be doing this for some time
Sixth
Can't believe Christmas is just a week away. I bought candy canes just yesterday, a last minute shopping. Also bought Life Of Pi the novel. I'm afraid I won't be able to watch the movie due to hectic teaching schedule. Most the the novels I have are all movie adapted: Hunger Games Trilogy, Twilight Saga, Flipped, One Day and DOWK Series. I'm also a fan of Christopher Pike, Jodi Picoult and Mary Higgins Clark. Someday, I'm gonna try out Cecilia Ahern (girly), Nora Roberts and James Patterson

Big Mega Sales
this is my first trip to a mega sale
Popular Bookstore Mega Sale
wow, it was a big conventional hall
big mistake, I went there during peak hour
massive human traffic jam and so many things to see
my first stop was at the Wimpy Kid section
..........i couldn't find it
had to ask a salesman's help
i took three nice Wimpy Kid books as gifts for my students' good performance at a competition
it's also the first time me seeing Wimpy Kid books without plastic cover wrap
some of them already had dog ears
then I saw classical CDs with good bargain prices
I took four
I went to the stationary area, to the sticker station
good bargain again, I took ten
I saw pencil cases for RM2.00
I almost wanted to take nine when I stop, whip out my phone calculator and start adding up my basket
gosh, I had about RM200 in my basket already
this is the trick of mega sales
it doesn't lure you by marking down the price tag but by buying ten at RM15.00 (actual price one for RM3.90)
it's like, ah, good deal man..after a while, if you don't budget, especially if you have credit card, you'll overspend
I brought about RM250.00 with me, overspending is out of the picture, I didn't bring my ATM card too
Moral of the story : be a wise shopper
**ps, even the Scrabble set normal price RM99.80 now RM69.90, I was tempting to buy as a gift for my cousin..........the mould and paint set one for RM21.90 now two for RM39.90.................I had to quickly move out to the cashier

Pressure Cooker...
ready to boil anytime....I need a 'ting' button to stop the boiling
Somehow, it's easy to motivate my kids to do well for exams, competitions etc
Just know what they like (books, stickers), if it's not too costly, I'd bargain with them, play well and you'll get what you want..
sure enough, they'll put in more effort than usual, even independently come for practice in the school
But, why is it so hard to motivate myself?
Competition's round the corner on Sunday and I still feel a lack of something missing in their performance.
I've got two more days free for them to practice 3 hours. but before you could even try something new, time is already up....
And these days, I've been hot tempered just to scare my kids when they are happily being kids. Gosh, I sound like one my parent. Gotta apologize, cool down, give myself a time out and start practicing again.
Yes, that's what I'll do. All the best for Sunday kids

Goodies
Yipadeedooda
My books arrived yesterday while I was teaching, my dad got them on my behalf
I'm going to Read Diary Of a Wimpy Kid : The Third Wheel for my bedtime story
good news too, it's hardcover front page (the last book about snow also DOWK that I got for my friend was in hardcover form before they change it to paperback)
Get it now before it's changed (it's a few ringgit difference for hardcover and paperback, hardcovers last longer)
Another ordered book Flipped - it's quite flat (flatter than DOWK), equally interesting..I think my books are going to fight tonight
There's the third one One Day. It's still wrapped up in plastic foil, I'm going to leave it till the last
Jackie Evancho's CD Music Of the Movies is also on sale. I like it but personally thinking I prefer her album Dream With Me
And for the first time, I bought One Direction limited edition CD Take Me Home Yearbook. The CD they sell here isn't the same as it is shown in their Facebook page. That one comes with a CD, yearbook, postcards and a T-shirt I think. Mine only has the CD and yearbook, well nevermind. The CD is quite good, I mean for the usual high price I pay I get to listen to 17 tracks of songs.
Today marks the final time Penang Bridge is used for the International Marathon Run. It will be moved to the 2nd Penang Bridge next year when the new bridge iscompleted
* I still remember in 2007, my friends and I were giving our opinions on the bridge, whether it was a boost or a bane...time certainly flies
Today is also a busy day where I'm invited to sit in two concert shows (composition and guitar)
And today marks the day I step into adulthood. Gee, I'm no longer a baby, child, teenager. I'm officially classified an adult and I still can't vote..geez

It's beginning to look a lot like christmas
ahh, I'm having my holiday week long break (back to work on Friday)
past Saturday, my kids went for exams
after that, I went back to another center to help put up the decorations, starring the tree
it's the first time me decorating for christmas and I am super exhilarated
it's about a foot taller than me, maybe a seven feet tall fake fir tree
we had to open up all the leaves and by the time my colleague and I were done, we had scratch marks over our hands and the tree fell on me once (it was heavy)
on Sunday, three of us were divided, me alone circling the tree with light; another the cotton snow and the another assisting the ladder
I had to leave midway, my student is taking his exam at another center
when I came back, the tree was done with lights and they were busy putting the ornamants
on Monday, more snow is put up, and I started wrapping gifts a.k.a. books and empty boxes
we didn't have enough so going back today to fill up the tree root

Sugar and Spice..
Sugar
- My replacement classes for a maternity teacher will soon be over. I'll finally have my Sunday holiday again. Teaching four back to back group classes certainly gave a real headache, sore throat and fever over the two months but the kids were great and cooperative. I won't really miss them (truth). I learned how to stand as a leader even when I have not taught the course. I'll definitely be a better teacher to my own class who will be going to that level soon.
Spice
- The thing about learning something always ends with an evaluation or examination. For every piano and electone book my kids complete, they need to sit for an exam. And when I concentrate on the exam, I notice I do not teach new stuff eg. chord progression, improvisation, accompaniment pattern as there is no time to accommodate these interesting subjects. Are exams really important? Or are they a show of achievement of what the children have been learning?
Sugar
- I finally did the boldest thing in my entire teenage life. I ordered books online and it will be delivered about a month's time. It's the awesome and guilty feeling of exposing my personal details on the internet. Well, I didn't put in my real name =P
Sugar
- I want to sing onstage. It's my wildest dream since I was nine. I still have a recorded CD of how my voice sounds like when I sang out of pitch. Horrendous. And I didn't sing live when we did the concert. It was just me opening my mouth and letting air escape in case I forgot the lyrics. Pity. And I want to sing, now, in front of everyone with the butterflies and tornado in my tummy.
Spice
- I love proofreading for typos. But grammar wise, I'm sorry. For years, my dad spend his hard earned money on Enid Blyton and Carolyn Keene. Didn't do me any good. Sorry for all the grammar errors throughout this blog

Hooked by DWTS
This season is real pressurizing
I love all the exciting dances but I find a few dances on the sleepy side
best of all, anyone gets 12 votes on Facebook
it's already Tuesday here and I'm waiting for week 2 to show
* * *
Christopher Pike never fails me
and I always fail to find his books in the bookstores
somehow, I managed to find some in a 2nd hand bookshop
am currently reading Gimme A Kiss while waiting for DWTS
* * *
and deadlines to hit
10th Nov - Students exams (piano, electone)
2nd Dec - Clavinova Idol (solo, ensemble)
9th Dec - Piano Prize Concert (solo, duet)
and tons and tons of classes to replace (this is out of my kind act. Parents, pls be aware I am not obliged to replace missed lessons. Please do not complain or grumble when I don't give immediate replacements, thank you)

Inequality
I grew up more attached to my mum rather than dad
I never really am fond of dad
Does that happen to you folks out there ?
I had one student crying for dad in class; her mum brought her for lesson (usually the dad does)
Next week, I saw her baby sister being carried by dad; conclusion (dad does the babysitting)
* * *
when I was born, my own dad never carried me, he said I was fragile and he had never learn how to carry a newborn
so, I was either in mum's arms or in the cradle for two months
then off to a babysitter until I was twelve
dad always made a little fuss when I'm more contented with mum
said he, girls are always dad's pet; boy's are mum's
nah, I don't agree in that
it's how I grow up influences the love I show to mum and dad
Conclusion : give your child daddy and mummy love, they'll learn to love you without inequality

I am still nineteen
im supposedly twenty this year
but before my birthday, I consider myself nineteen years old
people keep saying, grow up, you're 20
I AM NOT
seriously, i am already speeding
I was a slow learner in kindergarten (I started kindy 1 at the age of 4yrs 2mnths when you're suppose to be 5)
I read Enid Blyton's books until I was in Form 4 (sad case)
i got my driver's license 4 months after my 17th birthday (on that year I was suppose to turn 18)
and still some asked why so late take license? (COME ON, YOU CAN ONLY APPLY FOR DRIVING LICENSE WHEN YOU TURN 17)
I had to wait a year before I could attend the teacher's training (due to age according to month)
I don't want to grow up so fast (I'm also childish)
=(

PASSED
ahh, days of anticipation is over
my flu unfortunately is still rocking on
here's the results
A1 : 25/30
B3 : 27/30
C4 : 23/30
SA : 15/21
SR : 16/21
AT : 15/18
TOTAL 121/150 PASS
well not that I'm pessisment or what but I keep thinking I might fail 'cause there wasn't enough preparation and practice done by me
C List, I chose Kabalevsky' Presto but my technique was worse than my playing so I had to learn up another song (Gershwin's 'S Wonderful) 3 months before exam
Aural Test, that subject the teacher discussed it two times before exams..and there's a lot to memorise
I don't think I'll be able to do that in Grade 8
anyways that's a happy ending to my second ABRSM exam
Last week, friend and I watched Diary Of a Wimpy Kid : Dog Days (3rd installation)
it's hilarious with a lot of smiles, laughter and a ghost story (as usual)
it's my 1st DOWK movie (bought the other two after watching it)
it's not really 100% from the novel but I find it better than the book
I don't like how Greg treats his friend Rowley, it's sometimes beyond annoying
but in the movie, Greg is shown neutral and got along well with Holly

Real Me
When I was a few years younger, I thought,
if I had to do music, I'd be a free-lance pianist
my exams just past and I feel like passing away
out of 12 candidates, the teacher said one got a F
50% chances it's me
well, i sorta flunked it, no subjects were strong
results will only be out next two months
* * *
I'm what you call a middle-classed person
I like a lot of things (piano, photography, English)
but as always I don't do typos but if you had noticed, my grammar is spelt TERRIBLE
(that could be the reason why I'm addicted to Scrabble)
I like playing piano but I don't enjoy practicing piano techniques
* * *
today after teaching a group class, my individual kid didn't turn up for class
I relaxed and played the piano as I like, medley-ing, playing Twinkle Stars & Ode to Joy with my own chords, ad lib playing and composing tunes
it's been a while since I did this
normally after a hectic day, I'd stuff myself with McDonald's or sushi or buy and read a book
time for a good night rest till tomorrow

ROAR
it's gonna be a busy week, again
sheesh
this whole week was filled with spring cleaning my bedroom (only)
it's day 5 cleaning and I still haven't finished picking up my trash
plans for the week goes like this;
Saturday - Piano exam (arggghhhgarrr)
Sundays - replacement classes for a teacher on maternity leave (there goes my only rest day)

Badminton vs Tennis
what's the difference between playing piano and the electone ?
they have black and white keys, one heavier than the other..
should be the same right ?
nahhh
its like you know how to play badminton, but you can't switch to tennis without knowing the basics
***
've been watching badminton for Olympics
its funny to watch how the judge has to keep his head left right left right following the shuttlecock

First Time
starring Mark Chao & Angelababy
movie was great
maybe too many flashbacks
fact : my malay friend keep up the whole movie while i went lost halfway
i like how they remix the donkey song, stand by me, and I cry like a little child
sadly, the girl died realising her dream
CD soundtrack is already on sale
it's my collector's item =)

RAWR
as said, i am stressed
but it was fun celebrating birthday with my girl friend
and i had new friends
it was my first trip to Neway
and gee, they (the boys) kept jumping up and down the sofa (monkeys)
it took me a while to warm up (very cold)
then i became the monkey
i love the sign that says cake throwing = RM150 penalty
one of the guys is funny and crazy, we became fast friends
the other one was shy but he sang real loud
odd, he looked similar (a little taller and thinner) like my ex
and he's a great thinker (we played 100 floors) (we got stuck at the silent floor)
i got his birthdate, hometown, occupation........
he doesn't have a gf
one word : ATTRACTED
and LOL, the whole world is now rambling about THOR
:D

Generation Z
these days, children are entirely different
my time, around early 2000-ish, Westlife was the greatest boy band
every morning at 9am without fail, they'd put Seasons In The Sun or Faith Hill's There You'll Be on TV,
back then, we kids were obsessed with Gameboy Color, Pokemon....
nothing to do with high tech gadgets, we'd play acilok besi (?) in the school walkway, run and fall and bleed, collecting stickers and stamps, drink from the same straw (hahaha), keep a biodata book (that was the old version of Facebook), read Enid Blyton's books and of course, playing yo-yo and Tamagochi
our routine was mainly eat, sleep, school
* * *
now, about 10 years forward, everything is advanced
even me, I'm hooked to Facebook whenever I'm free
start talking about Charmander and my kids stare at me
boys will talk about Ben10, Transformers......and the girls, Justin Bieber, Korean stars.....
even my 4 year old kid 'owns' an iPad
just recently, one of my students requested to play Britney Spears' Criminal or One Direction's One Thing or LMFAO's Sorry For Party Rocking for a competition next year
i won't oppose to what they'd play, music is borderless but the lyrics of the first and third song doesn't seem right for a 8 year old
anyways.....
